First Omicron Variant Positive case found in Chandigarh : A 20 year old boy who came India from Italy to meet his relative in Manimajra, found Positive with Omicron variant. He is fully vaccinated with Pfizer and remained asymptomatic. He had landed in India on 22nd November.
He had come to visit his relatives in Manimajra, Chandigarh. He was under home quarantine and was found Covid positive on retesting on 1ˢᵗ Dec. As per protocol he was then put under institutional quarantine. His COVID positive sample was sent for whole genome sequencing to NCDC, New Delhi. His seven high risk family contacts were put under quarantine and were tested for COVID 19 by RTPCR method. All of them were tested as negative.
As per UT Administration official statement, He is fully vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine which he took at Italy. He has been kept in a separate isolation since 11 days. His report for whole genome sequencing received at late night on 11.12.2021 and has been found positive for Omicron variant. He has been tested for COVID 19 again today by RTPCR method and the report is awaited. If he is negative he will be put under home quarantine for seven days and if positive, institutional quarantine will continue till negative.
His seven high risk contacts have also been tested again today as a precautionary measure.The Health department appeals to all citizens to follow Covid appropriate behavior and those who have not taken Covid vaccine or have had only one dose should complete their vaccination at the earliest.
As per official records, Chandigarh so far has seen 1076 fatalities due to Covid 19, Total positive are 65623 as of 11 Dec 2021 and 64492 have been recovered from the virus. First Omicron Variant Positive case found in Chandigarh
