Booster Dose for 60+ from 10 January: 10 Jan onwards Booster dose will start in Chandigarh for Comorbid 60+ geriatric populace

Booster Dose for 60+ from 10 January: After a nine-month gap of complete immunization i.e. 39 weeks, booster doses are prescribed to be given to 60+ aged populace, health care and frontline workers There was a meeting of the Union secretary of health has discussed the complete plan and course of action with Punjab, Haryana, UT Chandigarh, PGIMER officials. It is decided that Health care workers and Frontline workers would get booster doses from 3rd January onwards.

Parents can register their children on the Cowin app (Booster Dose for 60+ from 10 January)

PGIMER, Chandigarh while sharing their official statement, said, “As per the latest guidelines of MOHFW, GOI, PGIMER will start administering Covid 19 vaccine in Advanced Pediatric Centre to all the children aged 15-18 years of age. These children will receive two doses of Covaxin at an interval of 28 days intramuscularly in the arm from 3rd January onwards. Parents can register their children on the Cowin app. Later from 10th January onwards, all the Health Care Workers, Front line Workers, and elderly with comorbidities will be receiving the precautionary dose as per the GOI guidelines in LT -1 Nehru building PGIMER.

“Union health secretary has scheduled a meeting through video conferencing on Tuesday to discuss the guidelines. All persons aged 60 years and above with comorbidities who have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, will be provided with a precaution dose from 10th January 2022. The prioritization and sequencing of this precaution dose would be based on the completion of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose,” said Director Health Services, Chandigarh Dr. Suman Singh.

Co-WIN features and provisions

1. HCWs, FLWs and Citizens 60+ with co-morbidities:
a) All HCWs, FLWs and citizens aged 60 years or above with comorbidities will be able to access the vaccination for precaution dose through their existing Co-WIN account.
b) Eligibility of such beneficiaries for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of 2nd dose as recorded in the Co-WIN system.
c) Co-WIN system will send SMS to such beneficiaries for availing the precaution dose when the dose becomes due.
d) Registration and appointment services can be accessed through both, the online and the onsite modes.
e) The details of the administration of the precaution dose will be suitably reflected in the vaccination certificates.

DCGI Approved 2 Vaccine for 15-18 year Children 

For children between 15 years and 18 years of age, there are two vaccines that have been granted emergency approval by the DCGI for children. These include ZyCoV-D and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

“All children between 15 years and 18 years of age will receive two doses of Covaxin. They must take it for protection against Covid,” said DHS Dr. Singh.

The Indian Association of Pediatrics had recommended prioritizing vaccination for children with high-risk conditions. “Single booster dose would definitely help immunocompromised patients in rebuilding their waning immunity,” said Prof Arun Bansal, Advanced Pediatric Centre, PGIMER.

From January 10, 31,374 frontline workers and 20,000 registered health care workers in the city will be given the booster shots. The vaccination for the adult population started from January 16 in the city. Till date, 84% of the adult population have been fully vaccinated against Covid.
