PM Modi to lay the foundation stone of PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur and 2 Medical Colleges in the state of Punjab tomorrow

PM Modi to lay the foundation stone of PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur and 2 Medical Colleges in the state of Punjab tomorrow

India News, Chandigarh :

The central government is giving a renewed push to health infrastructure in the region. Preparations are in full swing ahead of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to the border town of Ferozepur on January 5 for laying the foundation stone for PGIMER’s Satellite Centre at Ferozepur. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation of 2 medical colleges in Punjab at Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala.

Shri Banwari Lal Purohit, Governor of Punjab, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, and S. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chief Minister of Punjab will also have their august presence at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the PGIMER’ Satellite Centre by the Prime Minister scheduled to take place at 1.00 pm on Wednesday, 5th January 2021.

Under the scheme of Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached with existing District/Referral hospitals” in various states, the central government has approved three medical colleges in the state of Punjab. The first college sanctioned under the first phase of the scheme has already been approved and functional at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. The foundation of the other 2 medical colleges in Punjab at Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala will be laid down by the Hon’ble. Prime minister. With a combined cost of 650 crores, these 2 medical colleges will be imparting training to 200 MBBS candidates. It is anticipated that these 2 colleges would be ready within the next 2 years.

Secondly, the second PGI-satellite centre in Punjab after Sangrur is being planned in Ferozepur. Construction at the PGI-satellite centre in Sangrur is nearing completion and services in the hospital are anticipated to start shortly.

The center at Ferozepuris envisioned to start with 10 clinical branches and their allied specialties. There will be 100 indoor beds including ICUs and High dependency units for critically ill patients. It will also house minor and major operation theaters. The building will be constructed using the latest techniques and is proposed to be a platinum-rated green hospital.

The border belt of Punjab is set to benefit immensely from the operationalization of the PGI-Satellite center. With PGI’s expertise in the area of health and training, the center will get good mentorship in healthcare delivery. This outreach model of service to the public will benefit border districts in and around Ferozepur. Construction at both these centers is anticipated to finish by 2024.

The three health infrastructure projects being initiated by the PM will go a long way in scaling up health care facilities across the state of Punjab and will benefit the public at large.
