Mamta wants the government to make it easy for girls to go to school and college, create employment opportunities, so that they can become strong and empowered. After all, marriage should be on their wish, their decision, not subject to any government rule.

There is also a fear associated with raising the minimum age of marriage that instead of girls, their parents may misuse it for their own purposes.

According to him, the basic problem is the thinking of girls as a burden, and as long as they do not change, the fixed age is 18 or 21, families will do their own thing. But if girls start earning, then the pressure of marriage on them will reduce.
Priyanka claims that a lot of child marriages are still taking place in her area, “People are aware of the existing law, but do not fear, if strict action is taken in any case, then some changes will come, otherwise even doing 21 years will do nothing. Will change, because the voice of the girl will remain suppressed in the house.”
She wants girls to have equal rights with boys, so that they can better decide when they want to get married.
In a poll conducted with girls from across the country, many girls are also in favor of raising the minimum age to 21 years, because they feel that due to the law, they will be able to prevent their families from getting married.
At the same time, she also believes that nothing else has changed in her life and if she is not empowered, then this law will not stop child marriage, but it will be done in secret.

Damini Singh lives in a small village in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. In the village of about 70 families, most of the people do agriculture.
According to Damini, marriage should happen late, but not because of age. When the girl starts earning her money, becomes self-sufficient, only then she should have a relationship, then whatever her age is.
In his village, only five families have women working outside. Two teach in school, two are ASHA workers and one works in Anganwadi. Men are employed in 20 families as against them.
Damini said, “The school is six kilometers away from our village, if it is a distance of two kilometers, then they go on foot, but for more than that poor families do not want to spend money on girls on the means of the road, then they miss their education. And they will never be able to make their existence.”
According to Damini, the government should open training centers for girls so that they can stand on their own feet and make their own decisions, and if they have to fight for them, they can raise their voice.
